Hello Everyone,
This month is a busy month. We celebrate Mother's Day on Sunday, May 13th. It is a time when we show our mothers how much we love, appreciate, and value them. Mothers have always played valuable role in American Society. To learn more about Mother's Day, head to your nearest Lee County Library.
There are many books about mothers. Here are a few of my favorites to share with little ones. Five Minutes Peace by Jill Murphy is a story about Mrs. Large (an elephant) and her rambunctious elephant children. It is a very humerous picture book. The next book is I like Noisy, Mom likes Quiet by Eileen Spinelli. This book is about a young raccoon and his mother. The raccoon child is very different from his mother. However, he manages to make Mother's Day special by acting just the way his mom would like him to. Another special book, If Kisses Were Colors by Janet Lawler. This picture book has a wonderful story with fanciful paintings and timeless beauty. Last of all, The Mother's Day Mice by Eve Bunting. It is a charming story featuring three mice brothers. The book is also illustrated by an award winning illustrator and author, Jan Brett. Jan Brett has won the Parent Choice Foundation Illustration Award.
After reading books about Mother's Day, sing a song. How about "I Really Love My Mother." (Sung to the tune" The More We Get Together the Happier We Will Be").
I really love my mother, my mother, my mother
I really love my mother so much!
She feeds me and clothes me, she hugs me and kisses me.
I really love my mother, I love her so much!
May is also chocolate month! You can bake all kinds of yummy chocolate cakes and cookies. You do not know what to make? Then read with your children the following books. Chocolate Chip Cookies by Karen Wagner. This delicious book guides little ones step by step through a simple recipe for baking "chippers." Are you hungery for more chocolate and reading? Then read Chocolate Moose by Maggie Keen. In this picture book, Mrs. Mouse has a bakery. She advertises for a helper. Mrs. Mouse does not know quite what to do with her new oversize helper, Moose. Moose is determined to make a good baker in the tiny bakery. There is alot of excitement in this bakery!
Happy Reading!
